Is 69 too cold for boating?
My father in law bought a boat on a whim because he thought he needed one. He's never had it in the water, doesn't know if it works. Hands me the keys and paper work and says "im going to be out of town for a few weeks, why don't you try the boat out and make sure it works."
Um...okay?

Never too cold for boating!
Actually yes, if there is ice, stay at the dock. Google says 69F is 20C so I definitely think it's time for boating! Whenever we take the boat out of the water in the fall I have to head to the marina with gloves haha

Nah, especially not early in the season when you haven't been pussified by getting used to warm weather. Probably wouldn't go swimming though.

Mildly concerned about taking the family since its an unproven boat in a lake I don't really like

Don't you want your children to build character?

Lifejackets. And launch it and leave it running for 10 mins close to shore.

Take a friend; you know, that crazy one that's always asking you for favors. We all have one. Time for him to give some help to you!

I'll probably go. Still debating on the 36 inch deep lake* with 55 degree water, or the deeper lake with 45 degree water.
*seriously, the entire lake is 3 feet deep, if the bottom was hard I could drive my cruiser across it.

That's a good point. Probably good to let it warm up for a couple minutes and try it out. Maybe bribe someone at the marina to follow you out as a support boat.

well, it's going to be 30 tomorrow morning and my girlfriends dad will likely be ROWING OUT to pull his lobster traps BY HAND, so you tell me if it is too cold to be boating

Oh... I was thinking;
!
You'll be fine I'm sure. If there's any trouble you could just get out and walk to the shore.

Amazing that it's only 3 foot deep. Is it man-made?

Ick! We have one of those near here. I was skiing one time and fell, then walked back to the boat. Gross.

I like your thinking. My wife says when I don't get out on the boat enough I get cranky.
